DESCRIPTION:Cape Town Convention Academic Project – 11th Conference\nPublic International Law and the Cape Town Convention\n13th and 14th September 2022 \n  \nInvitation \nThis year’s conference will be held on Tuesday 13th and Wednesday 14th of September 2022. It will be held in Cambridge as an in-person conference\, but also with the opportunity to join virtually for anyone who is not able to join in person.   The conference will be held at Robinson College\, with the conference dinner at Gonville and Caius College; both are colleges of Cambridge University. \nThe conference this year will focus on Public International Law and the Cape Town Convention. The programme will include contributions from leading international law academics and other experts\, as well as discussion involving Cape Town Convention experts from all fields. \nConference sessions will include discussions of the defences that can be raised against claims for breach of treaty obligations in the transnational commercial law context\, the possibility of private actor recourse against states in respect of treaty obligations\, the relationship between sanctions and treaty obligations\, and the impact on CTC obligations of state-to-state diplomatic practice on treaty compliance. There will be a discussion of the application of international law concepts to actions taken in Russia which have an impact on CTC obligations and a session on public international law and institutions\, as well as sessions comparing\, in an international law context\, different types of property rights including those under the CTC\, and public and private aviation treaties (the CTC and the Chicago Convention). The conference will begin with a keynote address by Professor Philippa Webb of King’s College\, London. \nThe conference will take place in the Crausaz Wordsworth Building\, Robinson College\, Cambridge\, CB3 9AN. There will be a conference dinner at Gonville & Caius College on the evening of the 13th of September. Refreshments during the two days of the conference and the conference dinner are included in the conference fee of £315 for in person attendance.
