SUMMARY:Cape Town Convention Academic Conference
DESCRIPTION:The 9th Annual Cape Town Convention Academic Conference will take place in Rome at the UNIDROIT Headquarters\, with an option to participate virtually via Zoom\, on 10-11 September 2020. Click here to see the Programme of the Conference. \nWe are very sorry to have to let you know that it won’t be possible to hold the conference in Cambridge this year\, owing to the COVID-19 pandemic and the restrictions on meetings and travel that are currently in place in the UK\, and which may still apply in September. \nWhile it is a great shame not to be able to welcome you to Cambridge in 2020\, we are delighted to let you know that the conference will go ahead on the same dates (Thursday 10th and Friday 11th of September 2020) at the headquarters of UNIDROIT in Rome and also on ZOOM. While the content of the papers and discussion will remain the same\, the format will take account of the fact that many will be attending virtually\, and every attempt will be made to make attending the conference the same stimulating and interactive experience as it has been for the past 8 years. \nThe topics covered include an in-depth discussion of the impact of COVID-19 on the operation of the CTC\, particularly in the context of insolvency law\, as well as papers on subjects with great topical relevance\, such as the interaction between the EU insolvency regulation and the CTC\, and judicial breach of the CTC. There are two papers relating to the Pretoria Protocol on mining\, agricultural and construction equipment: one considering the amendment provisions and another on the features and challenges of developing the MAC International Registry. There will also be a discussion of the judicial guide to the CTC. \nThe programme is still in draft. Not all the speakers are yet confirmed\, given the current circumstances\, and the timings may change. We would very much like to be able to accommodate everyone attending virtually\, although this will not be possible for everyone\, so we may adjust the timing of sessions nearer the date. \nGiven the circumstances\, there will be no charge for the conference this year. If you would like to attend the conference\, please fill in the online booking form https://ctcap.org/cape-town-convention-academic-conference/9th-cape-town-convention-academic-conference-registration/. Full joining instructions will be sent out nearer the time. \nOn the two days immediately preceding the conference\, there will be two workshops for two projects which are part of the Cape Town Convention Academic Project: the project on the Economic Assessment of International Commercial Law Reform and the project on Best Practices in the Field of Electronic Registry Design and Operation. These projects examine important aspects of transnational law and practice which are of great relevance to the development and operation of the CTC. \nFull participation in these workshops is restricted to the members of the respective project groups. However\, this year attendees at the CTC conference are invited to observe one or both of these workshops. Please indicate whether you would like to do this on the online booking form. \nWe look forward to welcoming you\, in Rome or virtually\, for what promises to be yet another excellent and inspiring conference this year. We also look forward to welcoming you in Cambridge for the 10th conference in 2021. \nYours Sincerely\, \nProfessor Louise Gullifer Q.C. (hon) FBA \nProfessor Ignacio Tirado \nProfessor Jeffrey Wool
