SUMMARY:10th Cape Town Convention Academic Conference
DESCRIPTION:10th Cape Town Convention Academic Project Conference 2021\, Robinson College\, Cambridge \nInvitation \nThis year’s conference will be held on Wednesday 29th and Thursday 30th of September 2021. It will be held in Cambridge as an in-person conference\, but also with the opportunity to join virtually for anyone who is not able to join in person. \nThis year the conference will focus on two topics.   The first day will consist of reflections on the past\, present and future of the Cape Town Convention in its first 20 years and the second day is an in-depth analysis of some key topics in relation to enforcement of international interests\, particularly when the debtor is insolvent. Each session will include ample opportunity for questions and debate. The conference will be of interest both to academics and to practising lawyers. \nThe pandemic has been a real test for the Cape Town system\, and the conference is an opportunity to discuss some of the most important points that have arisen in an academic context.   The 20 year reflection will includes papers making an assessment of the impact of the CTC after 20 years\, an assessment of its impact in a post-pandemic world and considering the relationship between the CTC and Environmental\, Social and Corporate Governance (ESG).  The reflection will also include a discussion of possible CTC topics for future research\, to inspire current academics and future doctoral students.  There will be papers on the meaning of ‘insolvency proceedings’ in Art 1(l) CTC\, the significance in cross-border insolvency of Aircraft Protocol (AP) Art XXX(4)\, the meaning of ‘give possession’ in AP Art XI Alt A (2) and the application in insolvency proceedings of AP Art XI Alt A (10) (and the equivalent provisions in the other protocols). \nFor full details\, please see the programme. \nWe do hope that those who are able to come in person will do so\, as there are very many advantages to be able to meet each other and to discuss interesting issues about the Cape Town Convention informally as well as during the formal conference sessions.   We missed these advantages last year and it would be wonderful to be able to have them this year at least for some of the Cape Town community\, although we realise that it is likely to be very difficult for some people to come to an in-person conference this September\, and also that we will have to keep a close eye on developments in the UK and elsewhere between now and September. \nThe conference will take place in the Crausaz Wordsworth Building\, Robinson College\, Cambridge\, CB3 9AN. There will be a conference dinner at Robinson College on the evening of the 29th September.  Refreshments during the two days of the conference and the conference dinner are included in the conference fee of £300 for in person attendance. \nThere is a fee of £150 for online attendance. \nFees are waived for students\, academics who cannot obtain funding from their institution and government officials. If you are eligible for a fee waiver\, please use this code: CTWS220A. You will have to self-certify that you fall into the relevant category. \nBooking is available here. \nIf you have any questions about the booking system\, please contact charlie@suzyhowes.co.uk \nAccommodation \nEnsuite bed and breakfast accommodation in Robinson College is available for the nights of 28\, 29 and/or 30 September. You can book accommodation in Robinson College here.    A guest can also be invited to attend the Conference dinner on 29th September at an additional cost of £70. \nIf you prefer to arrange your own accommodation elsewhere\, you may find useful the enclosed list of hotels in Cambridge offering a variety of options. \nThe Fellows House \nThe Graduate \nUniversity Arms \nHilton Cambridge City Centre \nHotel du Vin \nThe Varsity Hotel \nThe Clayton Hotel \nWe look forward to welcoming you in Cambridge (or online) for what promises to be yet another excellent and inspiring conference. \nYours Sincerely\, \nProfessor Louise Gullifer Q.C. (hon) FBA \nProfessor Ignacio Tirado \nProfessor Jeffrey Wool \n  \n \n  \nConference Sponsors:
